Summer is fast approaching in North Dakota, and we sure do experience extreme temperatures, both hot and cold in our state.  Sometimes the heat can be life-threatening for some, but North Dakota’s cooling assistance program can help.

This program helps those who have medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, or cancer, or those who also struggle to pay those high air conditioning bills during summer months.  The program, organized by the Department of Human Services , provides a cooling device to those with a medical need; this can be an air-conditioner, repairing an air conditioner, or even providing a fan if that would be sufficient to cool their home.

To qualify, energy assistance customers can obtain a signed statement from their healthcare worker that verifies their medical condition and provide that to the county social service office.

I just wanted to let everyone know about this great service to help our fellow North Dakotans stay cool during our blazing hot summers.
