Units from Mandan, Bismarck  and the ND Forest Service responded to a grass fire Monday (3/14) to an area north of Mandan and took action to save two houses with foam.

The battle started about 2:30 Monday afternoon and by 3 p.m., a request went out for additional fire support. By 4, a message was sent to area residents who lived near the burn area to be on alert just in case the fire would spread.

According to officials, between 75 and 100 acres were burned. Fire crews will be on stand by all night. The cause of the fire is unknown at this point. The area remains under a burn ban. There is a chance of showers tonight, the wind will persist through out the night in the area.

A total of nine rural fire units, Metro Ambulance and a couple of units from the North Dakota Fire Service were on scene.
