A stolen vehicle led to a Bismarck police officer discharging his firearm early Saturday morning, January 23rd.

According to KFYR-TV, Bismarck police responded to reports of a stolen vehicle out of Mandan at approximately 2:37 a.m. Saturday morning.

An officer located the stolen vehicle in downtown Bismarck and gave the driver verbal commands. The driver ignored those commands, instead driving the vehicle at the officer, who was forced to discharge his firearm to protect himself, according to a press release from the Bismarck Police Department.

The suspect was able to flee, making it to Emmons County before being stopped by law enforcement there. He/she had two gunshot wounds and was taken to a Bismarck area hospital.

The suspect has not been identified. The officer involved was not injured.
