Update 4:45 p.m.: The Bismarck Police Department has issued an official statement regarding the situation on 7th Street and Broadway.

The police officer who stopped the vehicle on the 100 block of North 7th Street recognized the driver and knew there were outstanding warrants for his arrest. The officer also noticed components that had the potential to be an explosive device.

45-year-old Paul Fuhrman of Bismarck was arrested on Burleigh and Morton County warrants along with possession of fireworks. Fuhrman was taken to the Burleigh County Detention Center.

Update 4:10 p.m: The Bismarck Police Department Facebook has announced that 7th Street and Broadway are now open to normal traffic. No official statement has been made about the material found in the vehicle.

The intersection of 7th Street and Broadway Avenue was closed as the bomb squad investigated a vehicle.

Bismarck police stopped a vehicle at 12:39 p.m. on the 100 block of North 7th Street. The bomb squad was called after the police officer noticed what looked like possible hazardous material inside the vehicle. The intersection along with a section of Maine Avenue will remain closed as a precaution until further notice.

Motorists are asked to take alternate routes. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
