The students of North Dakota State University recently held their student senate elections and the second highest write-in vote-getter wasn't even a student. In fact, it wasn't even human.

Professor X, a black cat rescued from the Homeward Animal Shelter back in October, received 50 write-in votes during last week's student senate election, according to InForum.

Those 50 votes made Professor X the second highest write-in vote getter. With only five candidates on the ballot and 11 spots open, Professor X would have been a senator, if only he were an NDSU student.

Professor X took to Twitter to voice his disappointment in regards to not being able to be a senator:

There is no word on whether or not Professor X will continue his political aspirations.
