Nationwide, tension remains between local police and residents. Now you have the opportunity to see what police really go through.

Applications for this year's Bismarck Citizen's Police Academy will be accepted until Sept. 2. The actual academy begins on Sept. 8 and runs through Nov. 17.

According to the Bismarck Police Department, the purpose of the academy "is to allow the public to experience the many aspects of police work first hand."

The academy consists of classes from 6pm to 9pm every Thursday night and they are taught by various members of the Bismarck Police Department.

In order to attend the academy, you must live, work or attend school in Bismarck, be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, and not have a prior criminal record.
