Sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram make users much more critical of their physical appearance in comparison to others in their networks, which leads them to seek cosmetic procedures.

According to the study:

31% of surgeons have seen an increase in requests for plastic surgery, because patients have a more critical eye on themselves.

73% of all procedures performed (up from 62% the previous year) were cosmetic vs. reconstructive.

What it comes down to is everyone is comparing themselves to the people they follow – be it friends, family or celebrities. (Yahoo Shine)
