The Colorado Avalanche selected incoming University of North Dakota freshman Tyson Jost tenth overall in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Jost spent last season in the British Columbia Hockey League, where he was named most valuable player after leading the league with 62 assists in 48 games. He also racked up 104 points, which was the third most in the league, according to NHL.com.

Jost was also the captain of Team Canada at the 2016 World Under-18 Hockey Championships, which took place in Grand Forks. He was named the Top Forward in the tournament, after scoring a Team Canada record 15 points in seven games, according to UNDSports.com.

When the Avalanche selected Jost tenth overall, he became the highest-drafted UND player since the Chicago Blackhawks selected Jonathan Toews third overall in 2006.

Jost is set to join the University of North Dakota's men's hockey team during the 2016-17 season.
