This is disturbing news for North Dakota and the women that live in the state! According to Yahoo.com, North Dakota ranks as one of the worst states for women in terms of wages.

According to 24/7 Wall St. and reported on by Yahoo.com,

Based on recently released Census Bureau data, women made up almost half of the  workforce last year. Yet, even working full-time and year-round, they were paid only 79 cents for every dollar men made. The wage gap varies considerably between states. Women receive 86 cents for every dollar men make in New York, for example, while in Louisiana, women are paid just 66% of what men earn.

Sad to report that North Dakota ranks 5th as the worst state for women. Even though our unemployment rate is below 2%, women still do not earn as much as men do in the same positions. The median income of women in our state is less than $35,000 annually, whereas men hover right around $50,000. "The magnitude of the gender wage gap may be due to the relatively small proportion of women in management positions," the report said. Women also only held about one in four management positions in North Dakota in 2013.

The rest of the top five states include:

  • Mississippi (4)
  • Idaho(3)
  • Wyoming (2)
  • Utah (1)
