The celebration quickly dampened for many as allegations emerged that released POW Bowe Bergdahl was a deserter, and that the Obama Administration violated the law in arranging his release.

Reason.com reports a pair of Republican lawmakers charged that the administration violated a law requiring them to give Congress a month's notice before transferring or releasing Guantanamo captivies.

Then there is the question of Sgt. Bergdahl's character, as CNN reported:

"The sense of pride expressed by officials of the Obama administration at the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is not shared by many of those who served with him—veterans and soldiers who call him a deserter whose "selfish act" ended up costing the lives of better men."
