The Mandan Fire Department will be hosting a 10K and 5K run and 5K walk on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at Raging Rivers Water Park. The 5K and 10K race starts at 9 a.m. and the 5K walk starts at 9:30 a.m.

Dollars raised at the event will help purchase a thermal imaging camera to allow firefighters to see through smoke and rescue victims who otherwise would be difficult to find during a fire.  Monies raised last year were used to purchase carbon monoxide and smoke detectors for the elderly and low income families.  The department’s goal is to return event proceeds to the community through investment in fire prevention and firefighting equipment.  The “Through the Smoke Race” also promotes wellness and fitness for firefighters and the public. The number one cause of death of firefighters is heart attacks.
