The State House has voted down a bill to stiffen penalties for driving under the influence.

Bill carrier Rep. Robin Weisz called for killing the bill, saying it was redundant; a similar bill has already passed the House.  A proponent of the newer bill argued the penalties therein were stronger than in the older one.

The bill was killed by a two-thirds vote.  Details from the Tribune here...
