Memorial Highway in Mandan, better known to locals as 'The Strip,' is undergoing a change that will, hopefully, make the stretch of road much safer.

A new stoplight is currently being installed at the intersection of Memorial Highway and 40th Avenue SE in Mandan.

The hanging stoplight, which will be the only one on 'The Strip' between 46th Avenue SE and Main Street, will make it much easier for motorists to continue through 40th Avenue SE and turn left onto Memorial Highway.

According to an article in The Bismarck Tribune written earlier this year, the traffic volumes on Memorial Highway justified the addition of the stoplight. The current average daily traffic count is nearly 14,000.

The project, which also included the replacement of a hanging stoplight to a permanent stoplight at 46th Avenue SE, is expected to be concluded by the start of September.
