Another day, and with it another mass shooting - this one involving a Maryland newspaper. As the Baltimore Sun reports, five people died in what is described as a "targeted" attack at the Capitol Gazette newspaper office in Annapolis, Maryland.

Police say the gunman entered the newsroom and opened fire with a shotgun Thursday afternoon.

In custody for the shooting: Jarrad Ramos, of Laurel, Maryland.

Police say the alleged shooter had a long-standing dispute with the newspaper, which began in 2011, when the Gazette published a story about the defendant's involvement in a sexual harassment case.

Dead are Rob Hiaasen, editor; Wendi Winters, correspondent; Gerald Fischman, editorial writer; John McNamara, sports writer; and Rebecca Smith, a sales assistant.

Annapolis is the Maryland state capitol, and the state's governor, Larry Hogan, was on hand to speak briefly during the investigation.

President Trump tweeted that he had been briefed on the shooting.

Despite the shooting, the Gazette did, as promised, put out its daily edition Friday. "Tomorrow," wrote the paper, "we will return to its steady purpose of offering readers informed opinion...today, we are speechless."
