North Dakota Introduces New Traffic Signals for Left Turn Lanes [VIDEO]
Be on the lookout for something new coming to Bismarck-Mandan roadways, as the state of North Dakota begins the process of changing traffic signals for left turn lanes.
The new signals will feature a flashing yellow arrow, which means that those making a left turn must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. When the light is steady yellow, that means it is about to turn red.
According to KFYR, the traffic signals on 26th St., Centennial Road, and 43rd Street will all be replaced with the new flashing yellow signals.
Safety is the main reason for the change, according to the North Dakota Department of Transportation:
A national study showed drivers made fewer mistakes with flashing yellow arrow indications than with the existing green ball indications.
Expect more flashing yellow signals to be introduced to the Bismarck-Mandan area through the rest of the year and into 2016.
