The top lawman in McKenzie County is being charged with various discrepancies while attending a conference in Las Vegas.

The BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) issued a summons to Sheriff Gary Schwartzenberger  this week for unauthorized charges on a county credit card for a trip to a conference in Vegas. The charges on the credit card include a $556 airline ticket for the sheriff's wife, a charge for an upgrade on a convertible rental ($96) plus other charges for a golf outing and meals. In total about $960.  According to court papers, the charges were not repaid for several months, resulting in the credit card being shut down by the bank for late payments.

The sheriff refused to discuss in detail about the charges when asked by a news agency. He is due in court on December 2nd. McKenzie County is in the heart of the Bakken.
