According to a new study from the University of California-San Diego, when parents eat right and work out, their kids also do a good job of staying slim.

Researchers found that having parents simply model healthy behaviors is much more effective in keeping kids healthy than sending the kids and parents off to special programs.

"Parents are the most significant people in a child's environment, serving as the first and most important teachers," study author Kerri Boutelle said. "Since they play a significant role in any weight-loss program for children, we wondered if the same results could be achieved by working with just the parents, without the child coming to the clinic."
