North Dakota has attracted national attention in recent months for the oil boom and commensurate economic upswing.  One consequence is the number of people from across America asking the state for money!

To wit: "My office received a letter today from a 68 yr. old female resident of Odessa, Texas,” reported state Treasurer Kelly Schmidt. “She enclosed her medical bills totally $13,315.00 and would like me to pay her bills from the state budget. Just another day in Treasurer’s Office.”

Just so you know, writing checks directly to individual citizens is actually illegal per the state constitution.
