North Dakota regulators have signed off on a $1.8 million natural gas pipeline project in the northwestern quadrant of the state.

ABC News and the Bismarck Tribune reported Tuesday that the state Public Services Commission approved the Cherry Creek Project on Monday. Spokesperson for the commission say it will provide a "safer transportation option" and will help meet the goal of reducing flaring.

ABC says "the project will move up to fifty thousand barrels of natural gas liquids from a gas processing plant in McKenzie County to a plant in Williams County, where it will go into the Bakken Pipeline."

The Cherry Creek project crosses the Missouri River, with shut-offs at both sides of the river crossing

As the Tribune has noted, ONEOK Rockies Midstream has wanted to convert the existing pipeline and a portion of another gathering pipeline into "a natural gas liquids transmission line."
