There’s nothing like a top-rated live television event to promote one’s latest single — and Rod Stewart took full advantage of the medium’s power last night, appearing with DNCE to perform their updated version of his 1979 hit “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?”

As previously reported, Stewart joined DNCE for an updated take on the track recently, a team-up that reportedly came about as a way of celebrating Stewart’s deal with new label home Republic Records. Released Aug. 25, the collaboration puts a modern spin on one of the singer’s most successful — yet divisive — singles, taking one of the disco era’s biggest hits and making it more of a techno-pop anthem for a new generation.

The new “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?,” the full VMA performance of which you can check out above, marks Stewart’s first release since the arrival of his Another Country LP in 2015, and reaches stores after a well-received co-headlining tour with Cyndi Lauper. There’s no word yet on when Stewart intends to put out his first full-length effort for Republic, but in the meantime, he’s lately been in the news for non-musical endeavors.

CNN reports that late last month, Stewart made a surprise donation to a group of children with disabilities and their parents, offering a last-minute subsidy to help them make their way from Louisiana to Washington, D.C. in order to protest proposed cuts to Medicaid. After hearing that the group was more than $20,000 shy of its goal, he immediately directed his manager to write a check.

“Some of you may know that I live in America and pay my taxes here,” Stewart later explained. “I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican, but I am a father.”
