There were many deer hunting widows over the weekend as men, women, and children headed to their favorite spot in North Dakota for the opening weekend of deer season.

There was hunter orange seen just about everywhere you traveled this weekend in North Dakota. Many plan their vacations or PTO around this weekend months ahead of time especially if they were fortunate enough to land a deer tag which is getting harder and harder to obtain in the state.

In North Dakota, more than 55,000 licenses were handed out this year which is far off the record level of 150,000 in 2007.

The season opener is almost like a holiday. There are family and friends who plan a vacation around this weekend. You have old friends and family members coming from across the nation, coming home to North Dakota for the opening weekend of deer season.
