Small Amount of Weed in Minneapolis is No Longer a Crime
This is not to say weed is legal in the city, but the penalty for a small amount of weed in Minneapolis has been reduced to a petty misdemeanor.
Previously, getting busted with a joint or a small amount of weed has been reduced from a misdemeanor to a petty misdemeanor – which is not a crime – to match up with the state law. This came as a result of a Friday vote from the city officials.
A small amount is 42.5 grams or less. The new fine is not punishable by jail time, and the maximum fine is $300 compared to the old fine that was 90 days or less, and/or the fine is $1,000 or less.
Still, having a large amount of pot is considered a felony. Minnesota legalized weed for medical in June of last year.
