North Dakota Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger was arrested and charged with a DUI in Mandan last month.KXMB News reports Mr. Rauschenberger was officially charged with the Class B misdemeanor on October 6. He was arrested September 30. (UPDATE: the Associated Press reports Mr. Rauschenberger intends to pleade guilty).

The commissioner released a statement friday which read in part:

“As most people know, I have been in treatment for my addiction to alcohol for the last three years. That Saturday night, I made a very bad decision to drink and then compounded the negative consequences of my decision by driving while under the influence.

“I apologize and accept full responsibility for my actions, and will be pleading guilty to the charge. I regret putting myself and the public at risk and have taken immediate steps to put my life and health back on track including going back into treatment with a new counselor. I am grateful to my family and friends who have supported me as I have dealt with the challenges of my addiction.

The commissioner is scheduled to appear in court October 31.
