Get ready for longer day light hours as daylight saving time begins Sunday morning at 2 and will run through November 6th.

Set your clocks on hour ahead before (spring forward) bed tonight as daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday. (3/13) For some, we love the longer day light hours, here locally, in the dead of summer, we can see close to 16 hours of day light in Bismarck-Mandan, especially with the time zone at the Western end of Morton County. Outdoor enthusiast, farmers and backyard cookout lovers, really enjoy the longer days.

Then you have those that wake up early, as I do, and I will miss that hour of sleep. I actually start training my body clock to wake up at the new time. This past week, I started to get moving at 2:45 a.m., which will be 3:45 this next week and my normal wake time.

Here are a few other benefits according to Time-Time.net.

  • decreased electricity consumption
  • slight drop in traffic accidents (more accidents happen in the dark)
  • increased recreational time in the afternoons and evenings

There is an increase in fuel consumptions during the summer months, not only due to vacations, but people can also travel late in the evenings. DST has no effect in terms of hospital admissions. That is a myth. Some people dislike the changing of the clocks twice and year and the obvious of losing that hour of sleep. This is always the time of year to check the batteries around your house, clocks, fire and smoke detectors and C02 detectors.
