I have a friend who is a therapist and asked me IF I could share a little something with the members of our COOL 98.7 listening family.  This is especially for mothers of daughters, who happen to be of course a daughter themselves.   And my friend shared with me good ways and bad ways to talk to their daughters about their bodies---this is really GOOD stuff here.  I have a daughter myself and I wish i would have known this stuff when my daughter was younger.

If you think your daughter’s body looks really great, don’t repeat that to her. Here are some things you can say instead: “You look so healthy!” or “You’re looking so strong,” or “I can see how happy you are – you’re glowing.”

Make sure that you teach your daughter about something really important---about kindness towards others, but also kindness towards herself.

Encourage your daughter to run because it makes her feel less stressed and feel better and is healthy for her … not because it helps her lose weight.

And most importantly from my therapist friend----DON'T put down her body or even your own body in front of her.

This is really good stuff--now moms---go share it and do it!!!
