National Night Out is celebrated the first Tuesday of August every year and it is meant to strengthen police ties with the community.

Events are happening all throughout the US today at a time when tensions are high between police departments and local citizens.

National Night Out is observed every year in a variety of different ways. In Bismarck, Police are asking you to join them at Target tonight beginning at 5pm where you can learn about various police programs such as 'Drug Prevention,' 'Town Watch,' and 'Neighborhood Watch.'

Tonight's event which will go until 8pm will feature local police, local firemen, and the National Guard.

Hot dogs and chips will be available for attendees as well.
