The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's basketball team has never made it to the big dance. That could change with a Big Sky Conference Tournament Championship.

This past weekend, UND (19-9) clinched the Big Sky Championship and will have the number one seed in the conference tournament. They can clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with three straight wins this week. While that may sound like a daunting task for anyone, they're currently the favorites, and they're the hottest team coming into the conference tournament with wins in seven of their last eight games.

While that may sound like a daunting task for anyone, they're currently the favorites, and they're the hottest team coming into the conference tournament with wins in seven of their last eight games. Since making the jump to Division I nine years back, UND has yet to make an NCAA appearance.

The Fighting Hawks will not know their first opponent in the tournament until late Tuesday afternoon, as they play the winner of Portland St. and Northern Arizona, in a matchup of the #8 and #9 seeds in the conference tournament. The winner will then play North Dakota at 12:05 p.m. on Thursday. The full conference tournament bracket can be seen here.
