When was the last time you got an unexpected call or e-mail from someone that totally brightened your mood? Try taking time to surprise people in your life with little acts of kindness -- it makes them feel special. Here are some ideas:

Send a handwritten note in the mail. Just a few encouraging words will do.

Give your spouse or boyfriend a small gift on your next date night.

Send a gift basket or flowers to the hotel room of a friend on a long trip.

Cut the grass or shovel snow for a neighbor who is overwhelmed at work.

Take some food over to a family who's suffering from financial hardship.

Call and invite an old friend over for coffee.

Offer to buy lunch for a co-worker you don't know very well and get to know them!

Spend some time with an elderly neighbor or friend who is lonely.
