Just as we watched Kat Perkins with bated breath as she competed on The Voice last year, we now have another local talent to cheer on as he auditions for American Idol XIV.

Zach Johnson, 20, originally from Wendell, Minnesota, auditioned for the Fox reality show lat year. He made it through the early rounds and was one of those picked to perform for the show's panel of celebrity judges in Minneapolis in September.

Scenes from those Minneapolis auditions will air tonight at 7 p.m. on Fox, and Johnson is expected to appear on-screen.

Johnson, an NDSU alum, was inspired to audition by his success competing in last year's Fargo Star, The Forum's annual singing competition. In that, he took an impressive second place.
