It's no secret people have a strong sense of school pride, but according to one study, there are some schools in North Dakota that should have more pride than others.

Niche, a company that provides millions of rankings and reviews on colleges, K-12 schools, and neighborhoods, released a study ranking the best public high schools in the nation, as well as by state. A public high school is considered to be a school that offers 12th grade, has at least 5 enrolled seniors, and has an average grade size of at least 15 students schoolwide.

A number of factors were considered, including academics, health & safety, student culture & diversity, resources & facilities, sports & fitness, and more. Niche used a combination of public data and survey responses from current students, recent alumni, and parents to get the results (check out the full methodology used).

A high ranking typically indicates that "the school is an exceptional academic institution with a diverse set of high-achieving students who rate their experience very highly."

In North Dakota, the top 10 is a combination of small and large schools, with one Bismarck school making the cut:

  1. Central High School, Grand Forks
  2. North Border Walhalla High School, Walhalla
  3. Kindred High School, Kindred
  4. Red River High School, Grand Forks
  5. Hazen High School, Hazen
  6. Bottineau Junior/Senior High School, Bottineau
  7. North High School, Fargo
  8. Century High School, Bismarck
  9. Northern Cass High School, Hunter
  10. Grafton High School, Grafton

Other notable schools on the list are Mandan High School (24) and Bismarck High School (25).
