The 25th edition of Americas Health Ranking was released today (12/10) and takes a look at the healthiest and least healthiest states in the US. So where does North Dakota rank?

The annual report looks at many factors in order to rank each state. The factors in each state includes the population of obesity people, physical activity and healthcare access.

The top 10 healthiest states on the list for 2013 are:

  1. Hawaii
  2. Vermont
  3. Minnesota
  4. Massachusetts
  5. New Hampshire
  6. Utah
  7. Connecticut
  8. Colorado
  9. North Dakota 
  10. New Jersey

North Dakota came in at #9, which is not bad at all! According to the report, a few of the highlights of our state include low rate of drug deaths, high rate of high school graduation and fewer sick days claimed. NoDak has a high ranking in terms of tobacco use, which was a blemish on the ranking. The population of seniors is expected to double in the next 25 years and the overall healthcare for seniors in the state was ranked at #18 in the nation.

Some of the worst states or least healthiest states on this years list include West Virginia, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi.
