If you're a hunter and have been looking to get your kids involved, next weekend's the perfect opportunity.

North Dakota's youth pheasant season will take place next Saturday and Sunday. Across the state, legally licensed residents and non-residents ages 15 and under are allowed to hunt roosters.

Regardless of age, resident youth hunters must have a fishing, hunting and furbearer certificate and general game and habitat license. Nonresident youth hunters from states that have reciprocal licensing agreements qualify for North Dakota resident licenses. If not, nonresident youth hunters must buy a nonresident small game license. Kids ages 12 and older will need to have passed a hunter certification course before participating.

The shooting hours will take place from one-half hour before sunrise until sunset. Adults at least 18 years of age must accompany the youth hunters. Adults are not allowed to carry firearms.
