With more and more events and happenings in Bismarck-Mandan, summer 2021 is already shaping up to be better than last year's pandemic summer. Pools are opening, fairs and concerts are back, and roller skating is back!

The Bismarck Parks and Recreation District announced last week that indoor roller skating is back at the Capital Ice Complex. Parks and Rec teamed up with the BisMan Bomshellz for the public roller skating events throughout June and July.

If you do not own a pair of skates, you do not have to rush out to buy a pair or miss out on the fun this year! According to the BisMan Bombshellz website, the league "received a $3,177.08 matching grant to help purchase roller skates for public use and enjoyment" through the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District. So, who are the BisMan Bombshellz?
The BisMan Bombshellz Facebook calls the local group a "skater-run non-profit flat-track roller derby league." The group's page states that the organization depends on "volunteers, businesses, vendors, and fans" to do things like roller skating events and free roller skating lessons.

I used to love roller skating as a kid. Growing up in the tiny town of Lansford, there was not a lot to do. But, on weekends, the whole town would meet at the community center for roller skating. It was some of the most fun my brother and I had as children.

What was your favorite community activity as a child?
