How Much Does Politics Pay?
If you want to get rich, becoming a politician may not be the path you want to take, or better yet, I guess it depends on the state you're in.
United States senators and representatives may earn six-figure salaries for serving in Congress but on the local level the payout is somewhat different.
For example, on the upper end of the scale, salaries for California is $100,000 in comparison to Texas legislators make $7,200 annually, or $600 a month and that's for working a minimum of 140 days (full-time) every two years. And then you have the perks, some of which we know about, and those we'll never find out about!
Using information from Ballotpedia, we have the break down for every state.
In North Dakota, the payment is $172/day during legislative sessions and lodging reimbursement up to $1,682 per month. You can see the entire list here.
