WPD to Hold Public Auction of Impounded Vehicles on May 17

The Williston Police Department is inviting the public to take part in a live vehicle auction scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025. The auction will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the department’s impound lot, located at 921 6th Street East.

Gates will open at 8:00 a.m. to allow time for attendee registration and a preview of the available vehicles. Participants are required to present a valid ID at the time of registration.

Dozens of unclaimed vehicles, which have been impounded and left uncollected, will be up for grabs. According to authorities, all vehicles will be sold in their current condition—meaning buyers assume the risks, with no warranties or returns offered. The department also notes that the operational status of vehicles is not guaranteed. If keys are available for a given vehicle, they will be handed over by Community Service Officers on-site.

The sale is being conducted under North Dakota Century Code section 39-26-07, which allows for the disposal of impounded vehicles if they remain unclaimed and unpaid for after a specified time.

Winners of auctioned vehicles must complete payment on the day of the event and remove their purchases from the lot no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23. Any vehicle left beyond that deadline will accrue a storage fee of $5 per day.
