In my mind, there is nothing cooler than watching "Man's Best Friend hard at work protecting us all..."

That is exactly what this four-legged superhero is doing! Say "HI" to K9 Charlie. Burleigh County Sheriff's new K9 - there he is proudly in front of a squad car, fully trained and on duty. These animals are razor sharp and have all the desires and goals that their human partner has - to keep our streets safe from drugs. So when you are driving around Bismarck, keep your eyes open for this K9!

"...certified in both narcotics detection work and bite/apprehension work."

Let's all meet Charlie!

Burleigh County Sheriff's Department Facebook page posted this earlier today ( Thursday, January 8th, 2026

"New K9 Alert!
This past December our department received a new K9 handled by Deputy A. Woodard. Woodard was previously assigned K9 Koi whom we obtained in the spring of 2025. Koi was a superb narcotics detection K9 but struggled with his apprehension work. As a result Koi was rehandled to another department out of state as a narcotic-only K9.
Therefore, meet our newest K9 partner, K9 Charlie! Charlie is a female Belgian Malinois born in Europe and is certified in both narcotics detection work and bite/apprehension work.
Pointy ears are working in overdrive."
Personally, I have gone on three ride-alongs with law enforcement.
It is ALWAYS fascinating for me when I go on a ride-along. Over twenty years ago, in San Diego, California,  was my very first time - about 8 years ago, I did one in Minot, and my last one was with a Burleigh County Sheriff ( see the story below )
Would love to meet you someday, Charlie!
