Christmas Items You Can’t Recycle in North Dakota 2025
Christmas will be here before we know it, and you're probably already starting to pull out your decorations from the attic. You may stumble upon some items that probably need to go in the trash--they're old and not in good shape.
Did you know that there are several Christmas items you can't recycle in the state of North Dakota? Well, if not, you do now.
Before you throw anything in the recycle bin, take a look at this list and make sure you're disposing of things properly.
Holiday Items You Can't Recycle
According to Polywood.com and Bismarcknd.gov there are several things you shouldn't recycle this holiday season. Let's take a look at those items.
1. Glass Ornaments - You definitely don't put glass ornaments in the recycling bin. They will break. A better option is to collect them in a box and take them to the recycling center in person.
2. Wrapping Paper - You might be surprised by this one. Only paper wrapping paper is recyclable. Glitter and foil wrapping papers do not get recycled.
3. Holiday Lights - The sources say holiday lights are recyclable, but they say you shouldn't put them in your recycling bin because they often get tangled, which becomes an issue when sorting. Instead, drop them off at the recycling center with other e-waste, such as batteries, computers, monitors, and televisions.
4. Ribbons & Bows - Ribbons and bows are not recyclable.
5. Tape & Sticky Gift Tags - Adhesives are not recyclable.
6. To-Go Coffee Cups - I found this one pretty surprising, but it's true. These cups have plastic/wax coatings and cannot be recycled.
7. Tinsel & Garland - The sources say these items are made from non-recyclable plastics, and their small, thin shapes are not ideal for recycling machinery.
8. Packing Peanuts
According to the source, there are several holiday items you can recycle.
