Free Landfill Week Returns To Mandan Fall 2026

Mandan Public Works is bringing back its free landfill week Monday, September 14th through Saturday, September 19th, 2026. If you have junk piling up in the garage or in storage, this is your chance to drop off certain items free of charge at the city landfill. During this stretch, the landfill will extend its hours and will be open from 8 am to 4:45 pm.

How Does Free Landfill Weekend Work?

Before you load up your truck and head out to the landfill, here are some things you should know. First, items will not be collected curbside with residential garbage. Residents dumping at the landfill must show identification to prove they live within the city of Mandan.

The landfill will accept items including furniture and appliances, but remember that appliances must be cleaned of all food and other debris.

What Can You Still Get Charged For & What Isn't Allowed?

• There is a dumping fee for tires: $6 for auto tires, $20 per truck tire, and larger tires such as tractor or semi-trailer tires will be charged at their regularly listed prices.
• You may not dump building/construction materials (Sheetrock, shingles, roofing materials, siding, etc.)
• No hazardous waste is allowed: pesticides, insecticides, harsh cleaning supplies, etc.
• Paint must be in solid form. Residents can add sand, kitty litter, wood chips, or sawdust to dry the paint.

Where Is The City Landfill?

Mandan's City Landfill is located 3 miles west of Mandan Business Loop I-94, then south on County Rd 82 a half-mile and west 1 more mile.

Public Works also put out a reminder for residents to remember to tie down or tarp your loads, so you're not littering along the roadway. You can be charged $25 if your load is unsecured.
