It Looks Like We Are Losing Landers’ In Bismarck
One of North Dakota's Largest Gas Stations is Closing 1,000 Locations
I've been keeping you updated on this developing story, including the possibility of losing one of our Shell gas stations in the Capital City. We don't believe this closure is related to the Nationwide Shell closures. More on that in a minute.
The states that are expected to see the biggest losses in Shell gas stations were Minnesota and South Dakota in our region. Nationally, Texas and California were expected to see the most closures. You can read more about that below.
The main reason for these closures? Consumers are increasingly opting for hybrid and electric vehicles across the country.
Shell Plans to Convert these 1000 Stations to EV Charging Stations
North Dakotans, however, haven't really taken the bait when it comes to EV vehicles. We have the fewest number of electric vehicles in the nation. According to Exploding Topics, how few? Try only .08 percent. A total of only 640 EVs in North Dakota. That works out to adoption rates lower than 1 in 1000.
We Now Know Which Shell Station is Closing in Bismarck: It Appears We are Losing Landers'!
Landers' Shell & Northside Market is known for so much more than just gas. They have one of the best bait shops in town, and their food is top-shelf. Landers' was recognized by ChowHound as the BEST sandwich shop in North Dakota recently. I know so many individuals and businesses alike that choose Landers for lunch at least once a week.
One of the managers at Landers' confirmed to one of our employees yesterday that the gas station is indeed closing. The manager said he believed the gas station would probably close at the end of February. I reached out for more information, but the management declined to comment at this time.
They also have all of their fishing equipment advertised on their Facebook page at 50 percent off. Another clue.
Why is Landers' Closing?
Rumors of Landers' closing have been flying for days now. We had received a tip from a former gas station owner in Bismarck a couple of days ago about the pending closure. He doesn't believe this has anything to do with the Nationwide Shell closures, but rather something else financially locally. In fact, this was just confirmed by a post from Landers' on Facebook.
I was really hoping this was not true, as like many of you, I really like Landers', and it's such an iconic fixture and beloved part of the community. We wish all of their affected employees all the best.
