Some Much-Needed Moisture

The National Weather Service predicted an inch or more of rain for much of North Dakota for several days before our rain event on Monday, November 3rd, and it turned out to be pretty spot on. A swath of rain that totaled over an inch fell from southeast of Jamestown to north of Grand Forks.

We will take whatever rain we can get these days, as we remain under a strong El Niño pattern, which typically brings dry, warm conditions to North Dakota in the fall and winter. The extended forecasts for us show very few chances for rain or snow in the 10-day forecast.

North Dakota Rainfall Totals: (National Weather Service)

Bismarck Airport NWS - .64

Grand Forks - 1.39

Horace - 1.38

Jamestown - 1.38

Fargo - 1.14

Finley - 1.52 (Highest Total in the State)

West Fargo - 1.00

New Rockford - .45

Dickinson - .74

Minot - .52

Williston - .50

Unfortunately for the Capital Region, we missed out on some of the heavier bands of rain that set up further east, but as I said, we will take what we can get at this point. In a typical year, this system could easily have fallen as snow this time of year. If this pattern continues (and it looks like it will), we could easily be looking at a "brown" Thanksgiving.

In the meantime, enjoy the warm fall and extra time to get your yardwork done or put up those Christmas lights in comfort.
