How Bad is Road Rage in North Dakota

Road Rage can be a very volatile thing. The majority of road rage incidents typically do not turn into a big ordeal, but now and then they can get scary. They can even become criminal, when drivers start to use their vehicle as a weapon, actually pull out a gun, or resort to a physical altercation.

I have been in a few situations myself that I couldn't believe escalated the way they did. Including a little ol' lady who was anything but sweet and proceeded to follow me on Bismarck Expressway, all the way to my work, and I was seconds away from calling the cops, until she finally peeled off. You can read more about that below.

Yep, road rage is present just about everywhere, but after several discussions on my radio program with my listeners, it appears this problem continues to grow in North Dakota.

What are the 10 Worst Cities in North Dakota for Road Rage?

I decided to get some help with ChatGPT to look for documented aggressive driving incidents, enforcement activity, crash trends, and online complaints. I also decided to poll our listeners, and here is the top 10 list we came up with.

10. Dickinson

The name of this city says it all. Some people can be dic%'s. Residents consistently complain online about oil traffic, heavy trucks, speeding, and impatient drivers on Highway 22 and I-94 corridors.

9. Jamestown

Aggressive driving complaints have increased along I-94 and business routes inside the city.

8. Williston

More boomtown traffic is creating frustration with oversized loads, and congestion is fueling complaints online.

7. Devils Lake

Reports of risky highway behavior around the lake region, especially during fishing season. I will add that some locals sure aren't nice at the boat ramp either. Ramp rage at the boat ramp, too.

6. Mandan

Plenty of aggressive driving complaints with all that road construction on the strip, with no end in sight when it comes to road construction, but that is a whole other story.

5. Minot

"The Magic City" is not so magical when it comes to road rage. According to reports, the city has seen multiple high-profile reckless driving and chase incidents, including police pursuits involving dangerous driving through city streets.

4. Grand Forks

UND traffic, busy intersections, and increasing congestion, Grand Forks regularly gets mentioned in aggressive-driving conversations online.

3. West Fargo

Rapid population growth with non-stop construction has made living in West Fargo very frustrating for its residents, according to local social media complaints.

2. Bismarck

Plenty of road rage in the Capital City, with even a report of a recent firearm-related confrontation in Bismarck. Online reports of speeding, tailgating, and lane weaving on major routes like State Street and Century Avenue.

#1 Fargo

Not a big surprise. The largest city in North Dakota has the most jerk drivers. Police have even conducted multiple aggressive-driving crackdowns, including one operation resulting in 53 citations and 8 arrests. Road rage involving vehicle ramming, assaults, and aggressive confrontations has all been reported.
