Activists are hoping the recent discovery of the remains of a woman in Dunn County will spark interest in the plight of missing Native American women.

The Bismarck Tribune reports the body of Darlene Billie was identified by deputy sheriffs following the discovery of the body early this month. Authorities in McKenzie County, where the victim had family, reported her missing last November.

Ms. Billie was a member of the Choctaw Tribe who lived on the Flathead Reservation in Montana.

A spokesman for county investigators told the Tribune foul play is not suspected at this time, though the investigation is ongoing.

A McKenszie County police spokesman says they have been working with the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Flathead Tribal Police on the investigation.

The recovery of Ms. Billie's remains has prompted some discussion on local social social media among the Native American community. Some have said local authorities don't do enough to investigate cases of missing Native American women.
