Two North Dakota Student Volunteers Honored in Washington D.C. by Michael Phelps
Two North Dakota students were honored in Washington D.C. Sunday night for being the top two youth volunteers in the state.
Prudential Financial sponsors the Spirit of Community awards that honors youth volunteers from all across the U.S.
Nidhi Mahale, a junior at Davies High School in Fargo along with Anabelle Barcomb an eighth grader Erik Ramstad Middle School in Minot were the two students honored.
Each student received $1,000 and a personal congratulations from Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.
Mahale runs a nonprofit organization that makes tutus, capes and hair accessories for little kids through donations from individual donors and businesses.
Barcomb volunteers to help individuals with special needs play baseball. She also coaches a Special Olympics soccer team among other volunteer work.
