Sad news to report from an email obtained from the Bismarck Police Department.  A 15- year-old boy was involved in a fatal crash Sunday evening.

This happened at the intersection of East Century Avenue and Ontario Lane around 10:30 pm Sunday night in north Bismarck.

The 15-year-old Bismarck resident was traveling eastbound in a truck through the intersection of Century Avenue and Ontario Lane, and Jolene Stockert, 45 of Bismarck was making a left turn to go southbound on Ontario Lane in a car.  The 15-year-old driver of the eastbound truck crashed into the back-passenger portion of the vehicle traveling south and caused significant damage to both vehicles.  Jolene Stockert was uninjured and denied medical attention on the scene.  The 15-year-old was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased.

The collision appears to be the result of speed and it's believed that was a significant factor in the crash.  The Bismarck Police Department's Traffic Unit continues to investigate the circumstances.

The name of the 15-year-old boy from Bismarck has not been released yet.

According to an article from Edgar Snyder and Associates, 12% of all drivers involved in fatal accidents were between the ages of 15 and 20.  14% of all drivers involved in police-reported crashes were young drivers.  About two out of every three teens killed in car accidents were male.

This is every parent's biggest fear when you hand over the keys to your child.  Another life lost way too young.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to this young man's friends and family.
