Could Shipping Container Houses Become A Thing In North Dakota?
It's believed to be the first home of its kind built in all of Minnesota, and it's causing quite a stir. A home built entirely out of metal shipping containers. It's all part of a new initiative, (The Minneapolis Homes Program) in Minneapolis for contractors to build affordable homes.
This 3 bedroom, 2 bath home was built with 40 to 50% less lumber than a traditional stick built home. Paragon Builders used 5 giant shipping containers to build the home. It does have an unfinished basement and a double stall garage in the back. The home is beautifully landscaped and looks very modern on the inside. The builder of the home says this is a glimpse into part of the future of home building.
The home is listed at $280,000 dollars.
A classic case of taking something old and making it new again.
I spoke with a friend of mine who's a contractor in Bismarck. He doesn't believe we have a home like this in North Dakota yet either, but he would be surprised if we see one sooner, rather than later. You can build these homes faster (typically in 6 months or less). North Dakota has a growing population and with plenty of shipping containers laying around, it only makes sense.
