If ND HB 1339 Passes These Are Not “Dangerous”. OK? (GALLERY)
My recently dear departed father would appreciate me leading this gallery with a slingshot. I called them wrist-rockets, and I loved 'em. I loved bottle rockets too. So, I'm here to testify that they are both dangerous (rockets) and fun as heck. Would I make possessing a slingshot a dangerous weapons charge? Nope. Neither would Dickinson Republican Luke Simons
"There has never been a robbery with a throwing star,” Simons told the House Judiciary Committee on Monday.
It's North Dakota House Bill 1339 and it's introduced to change the status of more than a dozen contraptions that the bill seeks to un-qualify as being dangerous. There's a lot of crossing out going on...y'know, once ya get started...here's a part of the amendment
7 1. "Dangerous weapon" includes
any switchblade or gravity knife, machete, scimitar,8stiletto, sword, dagger, ora knife with a blade of five inches [12.7 centimeters] or more;9any throwing star, nunchaku, or other martial arts weapon; any billy, blackjack, sap,10bludgeon, cudgel, metal knuckles, or sand club; any slungshot; any bow and arrow,11crossbow, or spear; any weapon that will expel, or is readily capable of expelling, a12projectile by the action of a spring, compressed air, or compressed gas, including any13such weapon, loaded or unloaded, commonly referred to as a BB gun, air rifle, or CO214gun;and any projector of a bomb or any object containing or capable of producing and 15 emitting any noxious liquid, gas, or substance.
LETS DO IT!
NO LONGER DANGEROUS!
Here's one last amendment...
62.1-02-05. Possession of a firearm or dangerous weapon at a public gathering -Penalty -Application.
An individual who knowingly possesses a firearm or dangerous weapon at a public gathering is guilty of an infraction. For the purpose of this section, "public gathering" means
an athletic or sporting event,a school building, a church or other place of worship, and a publicly owned or operated building.
Again, as a legislator throw out the big "ask" and see what you can get.
Again here is House Bill 1339.
