March 2026 Declared Problem Gambling Awareness Month In North Dakota
Governor Kelly Armstrong has proclaimed March 2026 as Problem Gambling Awareness Month in North Dakota, aligning with a national effort to highlight the risks associated with gambling and encourage people to seek help if needed.
North Dakota Health and Human Services is encouraging residents to learn the warning signs of problem gambling and to reach out for assistance if gambling begins to affect daily life. Officials say problem gambling includes behaviors that compromise, disrupt or damage personal, family or vocational pursuits.
While gambling can be a form of entertainment for some people, it can become harmful for others, affecting finances, relationships, work and mental health.
“Every story matters. Problem gambling can affect anyone, and recovery is possible,” said Lisa Vig Johnson, gambling disorder clinical lead with the HHS Behavioral Health Division. “By increasing awareness and reducing stigma, we can ensure people know they are not alone and that help is available.”
The Behavioral Health Division offers free and confidential services for individuals facing gambling challenges as well as support for family members.
Available services include individual and group counseling, online recovery courses, responsible gambling education, financial guidance and resources, and support for concerned family members.
State officials say treatment programs have helped many North Dakotans regain financial stability, rebuild relationships and improve their overall well being.
