One of western North Dakota's longest-running agricultural traditions is back this week. The Williston Research Extension Center Field Day event is set for this Friday, July 10, giving area farmers, ranchers, gardeners, and anyone interested in agriculture an opportunity to learn about the latest research and growing techniques.

Williston Field Days

Research, Crops & Gardening at the Williston Research Extension Center

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. CDT at the Williston Research Extension Center, located at 14120 Highway 2, just west of Williston. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m.

This year's Field Days will feature both dryland and horticulture tours, offering something for commercial producers as well as backyard gardeners.

The Dryland Tour includes presentations on several timely topics affecting producers across North Dakota, including:

Disease observation and management
A biocontrol tool to combat wheat stem sawfly
HRSW (Hard Red Spring Wheat): A volunteer cover crop
Weed management with a focus on kochia

Meanwhile, the horticulture tour will provide practical advice for homeowners and gardening enthusiasts. Topics include:

Growing a great garden
Choosing shrubs for tough growing sites
Tips for growing healthy houseplants

Following the guided tours, visitors can explore several interactive information stations designed to showcase the latest agricultural technology and research. Demonstrations include the Soil Express Trailer at 1:15 p.m. and a drone mapping demonstration, highlighting how modern technology continues to shape farming in North Dakota.
