It's Giving Hearts Day all across the land.

I think we all know North Dakota has a big heart when it comes to charity.  By the way, don't forget to donate to the local charity of your choice on Giving Hearts Day.  You can do so here.

But, does North Dakota have a BIG HEART when it comes to romance?

The website Bookies.com just broke down the numbers to find the most romantic (and the least romantic) states in the USA.  They used Google Trends, search data, marriage rate statistics, and Valentine's Day consumer spending data to determine which states are indeed the "most romantic."

I for one was kind of shocked by the results.

North Dakota is America's "Most Romantic State!"

South Dakota comes in at #16, the only other upper Midwest state to crack the Top 20.  Our neighbors to the west, Montana came in at #22.  Minnesota had a rather poor showing in the love department coming in at #39.

How much money do Americans spend on Valentine's Day?

In general, Americans are willing to open their pocketbooks when it comes to spending money on their loved ones for Valentine's Day.  According to data from an annual survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights and Analytics, Americans are expected to spend a record $14.2 billion in 2024 on flowers, jewelry, chocolates and other candies, intimate apparel, dinner outings, hotel rooms, and other gifts.

If you break that down, the average American spends around $175.45 each on Valentine's Day, with men spending twice as much as women ($235 vs $119).  Those numbers seem really high, or is it just me?

Anyway, North Dakotans lead the way when it comes to love.  Embrace it.
