Minnesota Facebook Group Wants To Help Businesses Fight To Reopen

Earlier this week, the Boardwalk Bar & Grill in East Grand Forks reopened for business despite Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's restaurant and bar closure mandate. But the owner of the Boardwalk is not the only person who is fighting Governor Walz's mandate. In fact, there is an entire Minnesota Facebook page dedicated to helping shut-down Minnesota businesses fight the governor's orders.

Valley News Live (Fargo) reported that there is actually a Facebook group in support of businesses defying the governor's mandate. The ReOpen Minnesota Coalition is a Facebook group that is encouraging business owners to fight for their rights to be open. The coalition has even set up a GoFundMe account to help cover potential legal expenses for businesses that open before the restriction is lifted. Get the full story from Valley News Live here.

I have been fortunate enough to not have my job close down because of the pandemic. But I know many people whose jobs and entire lives have been negatively impacted by shutdowns. So, I can understand when a business owner wants to make money to keep both their staff's and their own livelihoods.

It is easy to tell people to stay home when you do not have to worry about paying bills. But people cannot simply stop working just because others think they should "for the good society." We only got one stimulus check, and unemployment money only helps so much. I can't blame Minnesota business owners for standing their ground against the government.
